There are sad and sorry times where you try to warn someone of something and they don't listen, then the bad things happens... or maybe you don't name it but just know something isn't right.
Much of life is lived in a space of; there's nothing I can do but hand it over to God/Universe/Spirit. If you don't live here, ye go mad. Ye go mad with anxieties and worry and develop nasty habits and other maladies. You stop living. You're moving from one frightful event to the next calling it life because you're stuck in a constant state of fight or flight mode. Is it really livin'?
The truth is, people don't change until they want to. The truth won't land right on their ears until they are primed with more pain than they can handle and they are finally willing to do whatever it takes to make the pain go away. They *want* to be better and they are finally willing to reach for better.
Aw hell, reaching for better hurts like hell too because it's terrifying and foreign and feels so risky because what if better isn't better and its much worse? What if it's just a cruel joke? So maybe i should just stay in my familiar pain.
No. It does get better. It can. There is better. But you have to reach and move and find whatever courage you have left because to get out is going to take it but there is one thing I can tell you, it will be worth it. Because where you are is going nowhere. You already know that otherwise you wouldn't be thinking about anywhere else. When we like where we are, we are there and nowhere else, right? So where is that other place, that better place?
What do you want? Where do you see yourself? What is the next most logical, no matter how small, step that you can take to move closer to "better?" Do it. You have nothing to lose right now, otherwise we wouldn't be sitting here together would we? Take that better step. Talk to someone. Get some help. Put the substance down. Sign up for the class. Quit the job. Leave the relationship! Ask her out on a date... whatever it is, move toward your vision of better.
Time waits for no one, and the trouble is, we think we have time. We are guaranteed nothing here. Lovingly touch as many lives as you possibly can. Smile at everyone. Compliment strangers. Leave a bigger tip. Kiss them hello and goodbye. Send a good morning text. Write the love letter. Sit a little longer. Hold the door open. Use the fancy stuff and wear that dress that is hiding in the back of your closet! This is it. Stop waiting. You have arrived! There is no finish line, this is the finish line. It is every moment you notice. Each moment is a crowning achievement. If you are willing to see it, life and beauty are everywhere around you, drink it in. Sometimes that is what *better* is.
